This sixteen day tour offers countless twisties and beautiful mountain terrain. This is the "Green Coast" of Spain. We'll also pay a visit to Andorra, a shopper's paradise, which has been cradled in the Pyrenees between France and Spain for centuriest.
This route begins in Barcelona, the Catalan capital and culturally rich sanctuary of famous artists like Picasso and Dali. From here we'll travel on glistening new tarmac that gently lifts us up above the clouds with vistas of snow-covered peaks into motorcycle heaven! You'll weave in and out of France following some of the curves ridden in the famous "Tour de France" bicycle race.
Speckled throughout these mountains are medieval villages that will bedazzle you with their ancient beauty and modern charm. Spend a night in the Parador in Bielsa. You'll be lulled to sleep by the soft whispers of the surrounding waterfalls in this century-old hunting lodge nestled in the heart of the Pyrenees.
We'll spend a rest day in the Basque Country, a land of hospitable people and gastronomic enlightenment. Here cooking styles blend together harmoniously as Spanish and French chefs share their culinary secrets to create some of the most delicious dishes on either side of the border.
From here we'll ride on to Asturias and the "Picos de Europa," the highest mountain range in northern Spain. This self-proclaimed "natural paradise" is a multicolored mosaic of meadows, forests, cliffs, and beaches. From these summits one can almost hear the soft murmur of waves caressing the secluded beaches less than six miles away.
You'll pass contented herds of cattle, towards Cangas de Onis, a town as historical in architecture as it is contemporary in fashion and ambiance. Two nights will give you plenty of time to explore this historical wonder, work on your tan, or ride another great loop to the famous mountain lakes of Covadonga.
On to Burgo de Osma and a land of gentle curves and rolling hills. Roman and Arabian fortresses and castles grace the landscape from their hilltop vantage points and remind you of sophisticated civilizations long ago. Here the Ebro River is an excellent growing environment for some of Spain's most delicate Rioja wines. Lush hills slowly ripen into the mighty Pyrenees as we head back for some more sun-soaked mountain air and Catalan charm. It's a motorcyclist's mountain!
