Don Quixote was Cervante's mythical character from Spain's famous "Golden Age" of literature. He is to this day still affectionately remembered as the defender of lost causes, a romantic, a valiant knight, and, above all, a man with an insatiable appetite for adventure.
Join us in this enchanted land of castles and windmills and become a modern day knight riding on a trusty BMW. We'll travel through dense pine forests and over mountains through 2000 years of well-preserved history.
Ever wonder if we're really more advanced today than yesterday?
How about Segovia's Roman Aqueduct built before Christ with each stone perfectly cut and positioned so that its own weight would give strength to the whole structure. Not a drop of cement used, and it still stands majestically nestled in the heart of downtown Segovia.
Ride the famous seven curves in the Sierra mountains outside Madrid and pass La Granja, the historical mountain retreat of Spanish kings, before heading to the 16th century walled city of Avila where we'll spend the night in a completely restored castle. On our Don Quixote route you'll gently wind your way through history without leaving modern luxuries behind.
Enjoy Roman and Moorish architecture, and perfectly preserved medieval towns of wood and adobe before traversing the Toledo mountains and spending a rest day in one of the world's richest monumental cities.
Toledo was the old capital of Spain, where Christians, Moors, and Jews lived in harmony for centuries, leaving great architectural treasures and converting Toledo into the cultural center it is today.
Castilla and La Mancha await us next as we ride past the famous Consuegra windmills. Don Quixote jousted with these very same windmills over 400 years ago. You can't joust with them but maybe a photo would do!
Medieval beauty and the "Hanging Houses" of enchanting Cuenca are next as we head to our 16th century Parador where your luggage is already waiting. Immense cliffs and mountain gorges characterize this region, and Spanish history makes it complete.
You'll only need your everyday riding gear for this tour although the history and beauty of this land will make you feel like a knight in shining armor.
